WE'RE BACK!
In the not too distant past, a couple of friends decided they should host an ultramarathon, and by all accounts (in their own minds) it was an overwhelming success! Unfortunately, travel requirements for work got in the way, and they had to abandon their only joy in life (don't tell their wives and kids that!). Fast forward a couple of years and here we are. We all know the chaos that COVID-19 has caused. There have been a number of virtual runs set up in a short amount of time that have benefited all sorts of organizations working on the front line combating this crisis. We saw that, and have participated in a few ourselves, and decided what better time to get back into the run hosting business. The logistics are MUCH simpler for us, and we get to support a great cause. It's win-win.
In our case, ALL proceeds of this run will be donated to the Golden Harvest Food Bank here in Augusta, GA. There are many problems facing us as a result of the fallout from this virus. Many have lost sources of income, and Golden Harvest is there to help out as many as they can, but they can't do it without support from the rest of us!
So, after you sign up, run or walk or generally propel yourself forward for any distance longer than 5K. You choose how far that is. Is it one step? Is it 20 miles? Your call! If you choose 20 miles, you'll probably finish dead last, but there's no prize for winning anyway, so you do you! Backwards on a treadmill? Video proof required or it never happened! The only thing that matters is that you accomplish this between May 1st and May 31st and do it in a safe manner in compliance with whatever regulations currently apply to where you live. Want to run 1 mile on three separate days? Do it!
Once finished, send your results to:
bearblaster50k@gmail.com
Screenshots of some sort of GPS device are encouraged, but we're on the honor system here. So just get us that time. Who cheats on a charity run with no prize anyway? We'll publish the results during the first week of June.
Our original motto was, "Probably no shirt. Probably no bear." We're going to stick with the first half of that motto so we can donate as much as possible to Golden Harvest. Since this run is virtual though, we have no way of verifying the probability of bears during YOUR run. We're hoping to have some small trinket to send out as a thank you, but please accept our gratitude for your participation in this run and willingness to help out your fellow humans!
Now get out there, stay safe, and enjoy your run!
