King of the Mountain Vertical Elimination Challenge
OUR FIRST WEEK IS BYE WEEK SO YOU CAN JOIN UNTIL JUNE 6TH>
Starting June 1st BMFJ Events is happy to have you experience our newest form of vert filled torture. Think of it as a Last Man Climbing.
There is no set mileage or total time of this event. THIS IS RUNNING NOT BIKING
Covering actual terrain is the preferred method. Entrants may use a stairmill or treadmill but THEY MUST DO THE CONVERSION and we will double check it. This will require extra proof and we will pay extra attention to these submissions.
Each week runners will log their weekly mileage and vertical gain. This information will be verified through GPS data then double checked and the 3 runners with the lowest amount of gain will be eliminated. If you do not submit your information by Midnight on Sunday you will be eliminated.
We will eliminate 3 runners at a time until a top 5 remain. Thereafter we will eliminate one runner at a time until a winner remains.
***Elimination rate may change based on participation numbers. If we have 100 people it might make the most sense to eliminate the bottom 10% each week. We haven’t seen a challenge like this so we are shooting from the hip.
You cannot “bank” vertical gain to keep an edge. Each week all runners will start over from “zero”. It is possible to have the most overall cumulative vertical gain and not be declared King of the Mountain.
(If a runner beats your vertical gain for that week)
So that means if you run a race with a lot of vert you still need to get out that next week and log enough climb to stay in the hunt.
This takes the level playing field and strategic planning of a last man standing and combines it with a vertical challenge. How neat is that?
Vertical Gain will be posted in the Facebook group/Google Sheets each week. You will not know what other runners are doing that week unless you personally track them. We will do our best to keep the information accessible but it might be more fun to keep you guessing. Your elimination might end up coming as a surprise to you.
How long will this go? How long must you keep climbing? Nobody knows.
The Winner
The King of the Mountain will receive a custom made belt along with free entry into next year's
Mid-State or this year's 36/24/12/6 hour Tennessee Mile.
Shirts & Refunds
All participants will be mailed a shirt and for local runners we will arrange pickup.
We will not issue refunds. This is a low cost event and virtual. We appreciate your participation and cant wait to see how high you can climb.
