THE EXPEDITION RUN
THE EXPEDITION RUN is a 3-day stage run or fastpack experience crafted for ultra-runners, fastpackers, and thru-hikers who crave the thrill of endurance and a deeper connection to place. These aren’t races – they’re immersive journeys through rugged terrain and rich culture, where each day covers 5–12 hours on foot, depending on the stage.
Instead of chasing PRs, you’ll be chasing moments: navigating remote trails, crossing rivers, passing through vibrant villages, and resting in small historic towns. Along the way, you’ll dive into the region’s history, experience local traditions, savor authentic cuisine – and, for those who want more, tackle optional challenges like rappelling beside a waterfall or swimming between islands.
We call it The Expedition Run because it’s more than just running – it’s an adventure of body and mind, where every mile delivers meaning.

A place where rugged beauty, rich history, and raw adventure collide. You’ll launch your journey from a region steeped in railway lore, then carve your way through deep valleys, thick forests alive with birdsong, and along waterways slicing through breathtaking landscapes – all leading to a final, unforgettable destination of towering rocks, colorful villages, and endless island-dotted lakes.
But this is more than just a feast for the eyes. Antioquia is the beating heart of Paisa culture. Here, resilience, pride, and an unstoppable spirit run deep. As you move across this land, you’ll be pulled into a way of life where hard work, vibrant traditions, and the pure joy of celebration are woven into every step of the journey.

According to official travel recommendations, the area surrounding this region is considered safe for visitors. With Terra Venture’s meticulous planning and the invaluable insights of our local partners, you can embark on this epic journey knowing you’re in good hands.
Participants will be given a GPX track, with maps and a compass as backup, allowing them to travel solo or in groups. The route will be strategically marked, with mandatory checkpoints ensuring progress in the right direction. Terra Venture guides, medics and the safety crew will always be on course for support.
A HIGH-LEVEL LOOK AT THE JOURNEY
While every detail of the Expedition Run is meticulously planned, the heart of the experience lies in embracing the unknown. The itinerary below offers a high-level view to preserve that spirit of discovery – but if you have any questions or need clarification, we’re just a message away.
DAY #1 – Arrive in Medellín and check in to our boutique host hotel, nestled in the vibrant heart of the city. That evening, we’ll gather for a relaxed welcome dinner at a favorite local spot to kick off the adventure.
DAY #2 – Enjoy a free morning to explore Medellín or relax at your own pace. In the afternoon, we’ll gather for lunch and a route presentation at a stunning location overlooking the city. The day will close with a special event dinner at one of Medellín’s top restaurants.
DAY #3 / STAGE #1 "ASCENT TO THE HEIGHTS" / ~ 20mi & 6000ft up – Morning transfer to the starting point of The Expedition Run. From there, it’s go-time – Your journey begins with a surprise before climbing from Colombia’s historic railway region into higher elevations, following the pristine Río Nus, home to the famous historic trapiches. The lively town of Santo Domingo hosts dinner and simple accommodations.
DAY #4 / STAGE #2 "THE PATH TO THE LAKE" / ~ 25mi & 6000ft up – An early start takes you along one of the region’s oldest mule trails. Ridges, meadows, rivers, and the historic Purgatorio Bridge, once a key gold transport route, lead to Alejandría’s iconic square. Rolling hills then guide you to Caza Diana on Guatapé Lake. This is the longest stage and slower participants may finish after dark so there will be optional group travel available.
DAY #5 / STAGE #3 "THE LAST PUSH" / ~ 15mi & 3500ft up – A boat ride across Guatapé Lake sets the stage for a diverse final stretch – expansive lake views, remote trails, waterfalls, a rappel (or avoided with an alternative trail), and two short swims (or avoid by kayak crossings). The finish line can be found at an eco-boutique hotel, where fresh food and drinks await.
DAY #6 – Head home carrying the memories, resilience, and sense of accomplishment that only a Terra Venture journey can spark – where challenge, discovery, and connection leave a mark that lasts far beyond the finish line.
WHAT IS INCLUDED
Touch down in Medellín – from that moment on, you’re in Terra Venture territory. Arrive at José María Córdova International Airport no later than 5:00 PM on Day One. We’ll be there to meet you, get you settled, and set the tone for what’s ahead. From wheels down to liftoff five days later, everything’s handled and included – so you can stay fully locked in on the journey, not the logistics. We’ll have you back at the airport Friday, carrying a new edge, new memories, and maybe even a new definition of possible.
