Choose your challenge!

5k, 10, half, full, or ultra distances.

Run on whichever roads you want, choose the distance, and the difficulty you desire! Runners of all levels have 8-hours to complete their desired mileage.

How it works

Runners start from the Start/Finish area in waves spread 10 minutes apart, and run in 2 hour intervals. Runners can run any route they want, but must have a mapping/tracking app going in order to track mileage and map the route. Each runner is required to come back to the Start/Finish area to check in with the Race Director (RD) every 2 hours from the time they begin. For example, if a runner starts in Wave #3 at 8:30 am, they need to check in at 10:30, 12:30, 2:30, and 4:30–assuming they wish to run all 8 hours. Runners who aren’t checked in every 2 hours will be considered to be finished, and a final mileage will be recorded. The RD will ask to see your mapping app to record mileage, and view your route. Participants can go back out immediately, or after they've browsed the aid station.

Runners can run for any length of time they desire--30 minutes, 3 hours, 5.6 hours, or anything else up to 8 hours.

Bonus
A limited number of runners can opt to be a "Freestyle" runner, meaning they do not have to check in every 2 hours. Runners wanting to do this must email the RD after registration.

Full details can be found on our website by clicking the links above.

Course

There is no defined course. Every 2 hours runners are required to come back to the Start/Finish area to check in with the Race Director (RD). Runners can choose their own route, and go where ever they wish in those 2 hours. Runners must have a mapping/tracking app going, to show their route.

We encourage runners to go out in small groups. Only one mapping app is required per group.

There are several mapping/tracking apps available and will work. The following have been used by the RD and are acceptable: MapMyRun; Runkeeper; Runmeter; and Strava.

Since there is no specific course runners must be aware of vehicle traffic. Don't risk your life by running in front of cars, or on the road!

Phone Charging

There will be multiple phone charging areas (power outlets) at the Start/Finish area. If your phone/watch is dying, leave it with us at the charging station and go running with a group that has a charged phone.

Donation

This race is put on to help us fundraise for our local running group, the Davis Square Runners. Our group is open to runners of many levels, and we accept everyone! Operating expenses of our group require us to ask for donations to help cover our website, race events as this, and advertising. We are asking for a suggested donation of $20, but any amount is accepted. Donations are accepted through our website, or in person on race day.

Location/Getting there

Street parking is limited to permit parking only. We strongly recommend using public transportation to get to the Start area. There are metered spots in Teele Square (5 min walk), in Davis Square (10 min walk), and in Powder House & Ball Squares (10-15 min walk). The Alewife T station also has all day parking for a fee, and you can take the redline into Davis, and walk over.

If you need to drive in, please contact the RD for info on some options for full day parking nearby.

Prizes

There are two prize categories:

1. The person(s) with the most miles after 8 hours.

2. The person(s) with the most convoluted routes. This is setup on a point system, 1 point for a simple loop, 2 points for a series of loops or figure 8's, and 3 points if you can write or draw something in your route. Be sure to show your course to the RD at check-in times to score points.

Race Rules

There is no set route for this race, runners choose their own route, and have a mapping app going during this time to track mileage. If your mapping app fails during the race, we will be unable to record mileage, sorry.

Participants can stop running whenever they want, by letting the RD know at the start/finish area. Their mileages and points will be tallied and recorded on the official list.

Runners not checking in every 2 hours will be considered to be finished for the day, their mileages will be tallied and recorded.

Please check out our website for full rules, and guidelines of the race. All runners should familiarize themselves with the info on our site.
