There will be no "Bib Transfers," or refunds issued if the event is going ahead. Participants are required to plan their travel accordingly.
If a registered runner does not show up, the registration fee will be donated to the CNSC.
The race director reserves the right to delay the start on Feb 29, or postpone to the following Sunday, March 1.
Refreshments
In an attempt to provide a low-cost racing opportunity, Participants are encouraged to self-support their race. This can be done by bringing along a running vest that holds water flasks or reservoirs. Similarly, a light hiking bag can also do the trick. However, there will be a water-only station at the 5K mark, and at the start/finish area. This will be a cupless race, so participants would need a water bottle/flask or reservoir.
The Clarenville Nordic Ski Club will be providing free Soup and Chili, along with Coffee/Hot Chocolate etc. The After Race get together will conclude by 5pm.
Equipment
Snowshoes are required to participate in this event!
8K Racers can be provided an opportunity to use a pair of Atlas Running Snowshoes.
The Outfitter's Adventure Gear and Apparel can provide Snowshoe Demos for racers to try.
Participants can receive their snowshoes 1 WEEK IN ADVANCE to test out and practice with their snowshoes. They will then be required to bring them to the Race. The Week Rental is a $15 fee, but allows participants to familiarize themselves with the feel of the shoe. It should be noted that running snowshoes are significantly lighter and easier to move in than regular snowshoes. They are much more convenient for running. .
Check In
Event Check in will begin at 10:00am at the Lee Churchill Chalet.
Use of the ski trails will be limited to the route, and duration of the race. A day pass will be required for non-members outside of this duration.
Route Description
The Timed Race is an 8K Loop Starting and Finishing at the Lee Churchill Chalet. The course is run on 3km of groomed ski/snowshoe trails, and 5km of snowshoe exclusive trails.
After a wide and fast 3km around Harry's Loop, Runners will begin a very challenging climb up the winding Lookout Trail. With an opportunity to stop for a drink at Lindo's Lookout Hut, Runners deal with a very beautiful decline through tall trees along June's Trail. A flat finale will provide a racing opportunity along Arch Tilley's Trail, opening up within the last couple hundred meters for a sprint to the finish.
This may be a very strategic race, requiring patience and good timing!
Refunds
We will roll over registrants to the following year. This is also the case for a weather cancellation.
