Running 24/7

For the Troubled Raccoon Racing 24/7 Challenge, you will need to run 24 miles during the month of July (7th month of the year). Sounds easy? There’s a twist. You need to run at least 1 mile during each hour of the day (Midnight-1:00AM, 1:00AM-2:00AM...11:00PM-Midnight). You can take as many days in July as you need to finish at least one mile during each hour. This is a virtual event, so you can run it anywhere and in any way that works for you.

Results and Tracking

You will receive a link to a Google spreadsheet and a PDF that you can use to track your progress. Download the sheet and use it on your computer or print it to keep track by hand, if that works better for you. Once you’ve run all 24 miles/hours, submit a link, photo, or email with the spreadsheet completed and I’ll compile your information into a finish on our tracking page. This race is on the honor system so there is no need to share validation links, unless you are claiming a special award.

Special Awards

That’s right - there will be upgraded awards for those runners who meet additional challenge parameters. To qualify, complete all 24 miles/hours within a 7-day period, or within a 24-hour period to receive a special version of the race award. In order to qualify for this, you must include a list of links to Strava or other GPS software or a photo of your watch/treadmill with the time of day for each hour’s mile (total of 24). These should be emailed to TroubledRaccoonRacing@gmail.com.

Swag and Awards

Every runner will receive a hand-crafted award produced by RaggedCuts. The award will be a medal-style wooden medallion to commemorate the event. Runners will also receive an event-specific neck gaiter designed for the Troubled Raccoon Racing 24/7 Challenge.

Running the Race

You can run the race anywhere you want - road, trail, track, treadmill, or your backyard. Just make sure you have a way to check your time and distance.

Charitable Giving

I believe running should be for everyone. A portion of your entry fee will be donated to the charitable organization Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run works to provide access to running to young girls as a path to personal growth.

Running Safety

Make sure that you take all appropriate safety precautions when running in the dark. Pick a safe place you know well, bring a light, and wear bright or reflective clothing. You should always let people know where you are running and when you will return, but this is especially important when running outside of your normal schedule.

Make sure that you follow all local advisories regarding safety and Covid-19. Respect appropriate social distancing and sanitary warnings. Endurance events, such as running, may impact your ability to recover and your immune system. Please take this into account when planning your runs and other activities.
