Race Description
The Road Warrior Race is a 33.5 mile loop run comprised mostly of bike path through West Chicago, Geneva, Batavia, North Aurora, Warrenville, Wheaton and returning to Dick Pond Athletics in Carol Stream. This race is FREE to all members of the Dick Pond Racing team for 2025, and in partnership with Running Is Fun Sometimes, is open to the general public for a fee.
The race can be run as an individual or as a relay team of varying sizes. You can have multiple runners going at the same time or even a runner along side someone on a bike. The only requirements for completion of this race is that at least one runner runs the entirety of a leg and all legs are completed by the team.
The start time of the race will vary based on anticipated completion time with the goal of having the majority of teams complete by noon at the Dick Pond Athletics location in Carol Stream for the after party for free food and drinks.
Start Time: Anytime after 5:30AM
End Time: Noon
Registration Process
Runners can register as an individual or as a relay team of 2 or more runners. Pricing for relay runners who are NOT Dick Pond Running Club members will be $15 ($20 after 5/15), regardless of team size.
YOU CAN DISREGARD THE EMAILS FROM ULTRASIGNUP.COM INDICATING THE TEAM IS INCOMPLETE WHEN SELECTING THE RELAY OPTION. YOUR REGISTRATION IS COUNTED AND THE TEAM WILL CONSIST OF THE TOTAL RUNNERS REGISTERED COME RACE DAY.
Relay teams should designate one member to register for the relay option and create the desired team name. Once the first member registers with the team name, the remaining members can register for relay option and select the team name from the list to register with (team names include member names in case there are duplicate team names)
Only register for a relay team that has asked/approved you to join. Runners who register for a team without the captains permission will be removed by the race director. Captains, if you see a runner register for your team who is not approved to join, just email runningisfunsometimes@gmail.com and we will remove them.
Please carpool with your team if possible as parking may be limited near the start/finish area for the post-race picnic.
Additional Relay Details
All relay teams are responsible for their own transportation. Aid stations/transfer locations will be stocked with basic fluids and snacks, but you are encouraged to bring any specific items you and your team may want during the race with you. Your team can split up the legs in whichever way you choose, as long as each leg is entirely completed by at least 1 member of the team. For larger teams, multiple members are welcome to run the same leg if desired.
Each relay member must register (and if necessary for non club members, pay) separately and will receive their own bib number with a special indicator for their relay team. Additional details for relay teams and drivers can be found on the race website at www.runningisfunsometimes.com and in the links below:
Relay Information Packet
Driver Maps and Instructions Packet
Bathrooms and Additional Water on Course (in addition to aid stations)
Aid Stations
There will be 5 aid stations at each transfer location for the relay teams as indicated on the course map. Aid stations will be stocked with snacks like granola bars, chips, pretzels etc., and water. Some aid stations may include additional food items and Gatorade. In an effort to reduce waste, we encourage all runners to bring reusable water bottles and/or cups. Aid stations will carry a small number of disposable cups to be used as needed.
Start/Finish Information
All runners and relay teams should start at a time which they predict they will finish between 11:30 and 12:00. We know that predicting the exact time of a 50k, no mater the relay team size, can be difficult. We only ask that you do your best so that we can try and have as many runners as possible together at the finish/picnic at noon. Please note, if you start prior to 5:30 AM, you may not have aid at the first one or two aid stations. Additionally, if runners are not on pace to finish by 1PM, there may not be aid stations set up at the remaining aid stations.
Post-Race Picnic
There is a FREE post-race picnic with burgers, hotdogs, sides, and beverages available to all. The picnic will take place at the Dick Pond Athletics parking lot across the street from the Red Hawk Park. This is the main reason we want runners and teams to start at different times and finish around noon. You are welcome to grab food and leave, but we encourage everyone to hang out for a bit after the race.
